Maverick Transportation stands upon the values and principles that founder and CEO Steve Williams calls “The Maverick Way”, which is “doing what you say you will do with integrity, respect, and commitment”.

Maverick Trucking offers some of the best paid CDL training in the business that includes industry-leading truck driver training at a brand new $3.5 million-dollar training center. You’ll learn flatbed, glass, or temperature controlled trucking from some of the best instructors in the nation.

Not only is Maverick’s paid CDL training program completely free up front, Maverick Transportation will not deduct any money from your weekly paycheck as long as you work for them full-time for at least 6 months. That’s the shortest contractually required driving period of all of the company paid CDL training programs we’ve reviewed so far.

As a student, you’ll also receive above-average trainee pay, including $550 per week while you train and $550 during orientation plus, a graduation bonus of $800. After you graduate from the program, you can look forward to great pay, unmatched home time, and late-model top-of-the-line trucks and equipment.

Before you apply online, Maverick Trucking recommends that you give their recruiters a call first. This is so they can ask you a few questions and “pre-qualify” you to make sure that you’re a good fit for the program. After you’ve been pre-qualified by a recruiter, you’ll then want to apply online.

Once your application has been approved, Maverick Transportation will have you come in to discuss the application. It’s at this time that Maverick Trucking will run a background check and, after 5 to 7 days, if you pass the background check, you’ll come back for the week long paid orientation program. Maverick Transportation will even pay for your bus ticket to Arkansas. If you prefer to drive yourself, Maverick Trucking will reimburse your fuel expenses.

Here is how the Maverick paid CDL training program works. If you already possess a Class A CDL, you’ll go straight from the orientation program to the 1-week long Securement Training program where you will learn how to load, fasten, and unload a full-sized Maverick flatbed trailer.

If you do not possess either a commercial learner’s permit (CLP) or a commercial driver’s license (CDL), then, after the week long paid orientation program, you’ll be given a job offer and, if you accept, you’ll be sent to Arkansas State University-Newport to start your 4-week long company sponsored CDL training program. Classes start every 3 weeks.

Your breakfast, lunch, lodging, permits, and fees will all be paid for during this time. Even though your meals will only be paid for Monday through Friday, you’ll receive a $550 pre-paid VISA car during orientation to help with expenses.

Don’t forget to bring:

  • Valid driver’s license
  • Social Security card
  • Birth certificate
  • S. Passport (only if you’ll be going into Maverick Transportation’s glass division)
  • Emergency contact information
  • Rand McNally Motor Carrier Atlas
  • 25ft tape measure
  • Pen, pencil and paper
  • Calculator
  • Alarm clock
  • Social security numbers and birth dates of everyone you want covered by your insurance

During your time at ASUN, you’ll be in class/training for 8 to 10 hours a day/night, Monday thru Friday. You’ll spend about 1 hour in the classroom. Here’s what you’ll learn:

  • Basic commercial driving skills
  • Arkansas commercial driving laws
  • Federal commercial driving regulations
  • Drivers logs
  • Industry-specific safety practices

On the driving range, you’ll practice backing maneuvers, turning, gear shifting, etc. Most likely, you will not have to share a truck with any other students but, that all depends on the size of your class.

After you graduate from ASUN’s Commercial Driver Training program, you’ll then head back to the Maverick Trucking terminal where you’ll undergo 1 week of securement training in which you’ll learn, hands-on, how to properly secure loads on a full-sized flatbed truck.

After completing the securement training, you’ll then pair up with a highly experienced personal trainer, one-on-one, who will mentor you during the Over-The-Road Training program. The trainer will remain in the jump seat while you operate the rig, observing and guiding you the entire time.

Even though 21 days is the minimum amount of behind-the-wheel time required for trainees, you can expect to drive for approximately 5 to 6 weeks. During this time, you’ll drop loads and get paid $550 per week. If you wish, you can request a personal trainer who does not smoke.

After you complete your OTR training, you’ll then be given your own truck. It is mat this time that you’ll begin doing solo runs, making 38 cents per mile empty and 45 cents per mile loaded. After 6 months as a solo driver, you’ll be given a pay increase of 2 to 6 cents per mile depending on your division. You’ll also be released from any contractual obligations pertaining to your tuition loan.

Compared to all the other company paid CDL training programs, Maverick’s is one of the best in the commercial trucking business. Not only are all your training costs paid for up-front, including your $3000 tuition, meals (breakfast/lunch), lodging, permit, and fees, but you only have to drive for Maverick Transportation for a total of 6 months in order to fulfill your contractual agreement and be released from any obligation to pay back the cost of tuition. That’s half the time that all the other trucking companies require you to drive. In my opinion, signing up and completing Maverick’s paid CDL training program is a win-win situation all around.

Benefits:

  • You’ll receive full tuition reimbursement if you stay with Maverick Trucking for at least 6 months.
  • You’ll receive on-the-job training for free if you qualify for the G.I. Bill.
  • Maverick Transportation will pay for your bus ticket or fuel expense to travel to Maverick Headquarters.
  • Your lodging, meals (breakfast/lunch), permit, and fees are all paid for during school.
  • You are only required to obtain your state CDL, no Hazmat Endorsement is required.
  • You’ll be paid $550 during orientation and $550 per week during your OTR training.
  • You’ll get a graduation bonus of $800. $400 when you go solo, $400 after 1st
  • As a driver, you’ll start out at 38 to 45 cents per mile (loaded/empty).
  • As a driver you’ll receive an additional 2 cents per mile intro bonus rate.
  • After driving for 6 months, you’ll receive a 2-6cpm increase depending on your division.
  • After driving for 1 year, you’ll receive a 1cpm increase every year for 5 years.
  • If you are assigned to a dedicated route, you’ll be home each night.
  • If you are assigned to a regional route, you’ll be home every weekend.
  • If you are assigned as a long-haul driver, you’ll be home every 2 to 3 weeks.
  • You are assigned to your own late-model Freightliner truck that is less than 2 years old.
  • You can take your truck home with you during home time as long as it’s parked in a safe spot.
  • New trucks are equipped with air-ride suspension, APUs, electronic logs, and roomy sleepers.
  • All trucks are Freightliner Columbias set at 65mph. They come with pre-paid passes for tolls.
  • Freight is about 65% drop/hook company-wide.
  • Health, vision & dental benefits after 60 days at $36.75/week (single) or $105/week (family).
  • You’ll get paid life insurance, disability insurance, credit union membership, and a 401(k) plan.
  • You’ll get paid vacation at $600 per week: 1st year/1 week, 3rd year/2 weeks, 10th year/3 weeks.
  • You’re guaranteed to be at home on Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Requirements:

  • You must be at least 21 years of age to apply.
  • You must possess a valid U.S. driver’s license for at least 1 year upon applying.

  • You must have good employment record with verifiable references going back 3 years.
  • Any felonies in your criminal background check will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
  • You must live within the designated hiring area.
  • You must obtain a New York Metal Coil (M) endorsement if you live in the state of New York.
  • You must drive for Maverick Transportation for at least 6 months in order for your $3000 tuition to be free.
  • If you quit in the first 6 months, you must pay back any remaining tuition amount: $500/month.
