Getting Your CDL in Order to Work for Trucking Companies in PA
To apply for truck driving jobs offered by trucking companies in PA, you will first need to get a Pennsylvania Commercial Drivers License (CDL). Getting your Pennsylvania Commercial Learners Permit (CLP) is the first step in this process. To get a CLP, you must be a minimum of 18 years of age. However, if you plan on hauling anything hazardous, transporting passengers, or driving a commercial vehicle across state lines, you must be at least 21 years of age.
In order to apply, you are required to pass a vision exam, pass a physical exam, pay the required fees, and provide the required documentation. Lastly, you must successfully pass the CDL General Knowledge exam. Once this is done, you will have your CLP and can move on to taking the CDL Road Test when you are feeling ready.
The CDL Road Test gives you a chance to safely demonstrate your skills and knowledge when it comes to driving a commercial vehicle. For this test, you must provide your own commercial vehicle that is the same class as the license you are applying for.
