Getting Your CDL in Order to Work for Trucking Companies in New Mexico

Once you have decided to apply for trucking jobs in New Mexico, you will need to get a  Commercial Drivers License (CDL). Before you can get your CDL, you must first pass the General Knowledge written test. This multiple choice exam is timed and consists of 50 questions. You must score an 80% or better to pass and receive your CLP. Once you have your CLP, you can then take the CDL Road Test.

The CDL Road Test is a driving test that should take you approximately 2 hours to complete. You will need to use your own commercial vehicle that is properly insured for the exam. The vehicle must be of the same class as the type of CDL you are attempting to obtain.

The Road Skills Test will be administered by an examiner on a pre-determined route. The test will help simulate what you will likely experience working at truck driving jobs in New Mexico. It will include many different skills and techniques including underpass clearance, upgrade stopping, maintaining proper lane positions, and observing other traffic.

Once you have passed this hands-on test, paid all required fees, and provided the necessary documents, you will be awarded a CDL. You can then apply for trucking jobs in New Mexico.
