Diesel

The Diesel program at Bridgerland Applied Technology College is designed to provide each student with individualized hands-on instruction and a positive learning experience leading to high job placement. Students learn how to service, repair, and maintain the diesel engines that keep America running!

Through classroom lectures, class discussions, and written assignments, students learn about diesel theory and the fundamentals of the diesel engine system, including the design, functions, and operating principles. Each student will develop strong computation, communication, and computer skills. Students will also learn how to develop valuable job seeking skills.

Inside the lab is where students acquire valuable hands-on instruction and instructor guided training, as they learn how to safely and properly troubleshoot, repair, and maintain diesel engines, heavy duty brakes, drive trains, suspension and steering systems, electrical systems, electronic systems, hydraulic systems, and heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems. By disassembling, inspecting, diagnosing, repairing, and reassembling diesel engines and their complex auxiliary systems, using electronic diagnostic equipment, precision measuring instruments, electronic volt meters, service manuals, wiring diagrams, power tools, and hand tools, students learn, hands-on, how to perform proper diesel engine overhauls and tune-ups. Students also learn about preventive maintenance and inspection.

By working both independently, and in teams, students will learn about workplace relations and effective time management, as they strive to complete each assignment given to them by their instructors with proficiency and speed. Students will also develop strong safety and shop skills. Students may also choose to obtain their commercial driver’s license (CDL) and obtain safety inspection certification before they graduate from the 10-month Diesel program at Bridgerland Applied Technology College.
