Automotive and Diesel Technology
The Automotive and Diesel Technology program at Ocean County Vocational Technical School is designed to educate and train high school students on the fundamentals of automotive and diesel technology for automobiles and light trucks.
Each student will be instructed on how to inspect, repair, and maintain diesel engines, electrical systems, brakes, drivelines, and steering and suspension systems, both in the classroom and on the shop floor. Students acquire important problem-solving skills and strengthen their mechanical aptitude as they diagnose, disassemble, inspect, repair, and reassemble diesel engines and system components using advanced diagnostic machines, specialized instruments, shop manuals, wiring diagrams, and hand tools.
Students also develop effective communication and leadership skill as they work independently and in teams completing each assigned task given to them by their instructors. Students who want to enroll in the Automotive and Diesel Technology program should possess strong math, science, and mechanical skills, and have an interest in hands-on work, both inside and outside.
Through Tech Prep agreements that have been established with the University of Northwestern Ohio and Lincoln Tech, students are able to earn advanced college credit upon successful completion of the Automotive and Diesel Technology program.
