Diesel Technology  

The Diesel Technology program at San Joaquin Delta College provides specialized training, knowledge, and skills for students who desire to learn how to diagnose, repair, and maintain diesel engines and heavy duty trucks and equipment. 

Classroom instruction in diesel theory and hands-on laboratory activities provide each student with the opportunity to learn all phases of repair work on diesel engines, diesel trucks, and the necessary equipment needed for their functional purposes. Students will learn how to properly use the manuals, machinery, computers, and tools needed to successfully complete each task.

Graduates of the Diesel Technology program at San Joaquin Delta College will be well-equipped with the knowledge, skills, and training needed to succeed as a qualified diesel mechanic in today’s truck and diesel industry.

The Diesel Automotive Equipment Technician Certificate

The Diesel Automotive Equipment Technician Certificate program contains the following courses:

Graduation and Beyond

Students who successfully graduate from the Diesel Technology program at San Joaquin Delta College will have the technical knowledge and specialized skills needed to secure entry-level employment as a qualified diesel mechanic at commercial trucking companies, construction companies, mining companies, logging companies, farms, ranches, and independent service garages.

As the diesel industry continues to grow rapidly, job opportunities for qualified diesel mechanics is expected to increase 11% by the year 2020, as fast as average, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. The mean annual wage for bus and truck mechanics and diesel engine specialists working in the United States in 2014 was $45,160, while the mean salary for bus and truck mechanics and diesel engine specialists employed in the state of California was $50,570 yearly and $24.31 hourly, 12% higher than the national average.

The Associate of Applied Science, Diesel Technology Certificate, and Diesel Automotive Certificate

San Joaquin Delta College offers a two-year Associate of Applied Science Degree in Diesel Technology. San Joaquin Delta College also offers a two-year Diesel Automotive Technician Certificate, as well as an 18-month Diesel Technician Certificate. All three programs are Pell Grant eligible. Certain students may qualify for the BOG Fee Waiver to help pay for their education.
