Medium/Heavy Duty Truck Technology
The Medium/Heavy Duty Truck Technology program at Lawson State Community College provides training, knowledge and skills for students who desire to learn how to diagnose and repair mechanical problems associated with all components of diesel-powered heavy duty trucks and equipment.
Specialized classroom and laboratory activities provide each student with the opportunity to learn all phases of repair work on diesel-powered equipment, such as diagnosing malfunctions, servicing and repairing diesel equipment, and repairing fuel injection systems. Through hands-on training, students will learn how to properly use technical manuals and tools to perform each job.
Students who complete the Medium/Heavy Duty Truck Technology program at Lawson State Community College will be equipped with the basic knowledge, skills, and work attitude necessary to succeed in today’s marketplace.
The Diesel Medium/Heavy Truck Technician A.O.T. Degree Program
The curriculum of the Diesel Medium/Heavy Truck Technician A.O.T. Degree consists of the following career-relevant courses:

Students must also take Orientation to College, English Composition I, Humanities and Fine Arts Course, Fundamentals of Public Speaking, Intermediate College Algebra, Critical Reading for College, Computer Applications, a Natural Science Requirement, a Social and Behavioral Science Requirement, and two 1-hour Physical Education Activity Courses in order to fulfill the 75 credit hour requirements of the Associate of Occupational Technologies Degree program. In order to graduate, students are required to complete each course and maintain a minimum GPA of 2.0, the equivalent of a “C’ grade.

The curriculum of the Diesel Medium/Heavy Truck Technician Long-Term Certificate program is made up of the following industry-specific classes:

Students must also take Orientation to College, Career Technical English, English Composition I, Career Technical Speaking, Fundamentals of Public Speaking, Introductory Technical Math 1, Intermediate College Algebra, Introductory Computer Skills, Introduction to Information Systems, Microcomputer Applications in order to fulfill the 46 credit requirements of the Long-Term program. Students are required to finish each class and maintain a minimum GPA of 2.0, the equivalent of a “C’ grade, in order to graduate.
The Diesel Medium/Heavy Truck Technician Short-Term Certificate Program
The curriculum of the Diesel Medium/Heavy Truck Technician Short-Term Certificate program is made up of the following industry-specific classes:

Students must also take Orientation to College, Career Technical English, English Composition I, Career Technical Speaking, Fundamentals of Public Speaking, Introductory Technical Math 1, Intermediate College Algebra, Introductory Computer Skills, Introduction to Information Systems, Microcomputer Applications in order to fulfill the 28 credit requirements of the Short-Term program. Students must complete every class maintain at least a 2.0 GPA, the equivalent of a “C’ grade, in order to graduate.
The Associate in Occupational Studies Degree and Undergraduate Certificate
Lawson State Community College offers a two-year Associate in Occupational Studies Degree in Medium/Heavy Duty Truck Technology. Lawson State Community College also offers a Long-Term Undergraduate Certificate in Medium/Heavy Duty Truck Technology as well as a Short-Term Undergraduate Certificate in Medium/Heavy Duty Truck Technology. All three program are Pell Grant eligible.
