Clean Energy Diesel Technician
The Clean Energy Diesel Technician program at Central Oregon Community College is designed to train students to be the key troubleshooter in recognizing, analyzing, and neutralizing, a vehicle’s operational problems.
Through classroom lectures and written assignments, students are taught the operational principles and theory of Hydraulically actuated Electronically controlled Unit Injection, also known as HEUI systems, Electronic Unit Injection (EUI) systems, and Common Rail (CR) systems, as they are applied to Diesel Engine Performance.
In the laboratory, students are carefully guided by their instructors, gaining valuable hands-on experience, as they learn how to identify and repair everything from powertrain malfunctions to ignition system failures and other engine-related problems, using state-of-the-art computerized diagnostic machines, gauges, technical manuals, wiring diagrams, electronic meters, power tools, and hand tools. Each student is taught the best way to fix the problem according to the client’s needs.
By working both independently, and in teams, disassembling, inspecting, troubleshooting, repairing, and reassembling various diesel engines and their integrated system components, students gain a basic understanding of the value of teamwork and effective time management, working to complete each assignment in a proficient and speedy manner. Strong communication skills, ethics, and how to interact with customers on a professional level are also discussed and practiced throughout the program.
