Diesel Powered Equipment Technology
The Diesel Powered Equipment Technology program at Northwest Louisiana Technical College provides specialized classroom instruction and practical hands-on training to prepare students for employment as entry-level diesel powered equipment technicians.
Students learn about shop safety, proper selection and use of hand tools, power tools, jacks, and hoisting equipment, disassembling engines and parts replacement, understanding technical manuals and wiring diagrams, basic computer skills, diagnosing and repairing differentials, diagnosing and repairing brake systems, understanding hydraulic systems, electrical systems, oil and water pumps, steering and suspension systems, drive trains and chassis, mobile air condition repair, diagnosing diesel fuel systems, and preventive maintenance.

Students have the option of exiting out of the program with either a 4-month Technical Competency Area Certificate or an 8-month Certificate of Technical Studies if they feel that the 18-month Technical Diploma program is not for them.

The Diesel Powered Equipment Technology Diploma, Technical Studies Certificate, and Technical Competency Area Certificate
Northwest Louisiana Technical College offers an 18-month Diesel Powered Equipment Technology Diploma. Northshore Technical Community College also offers an 8-month Certificate of Technical Studies in Diesel Powered Equipment Technology with an emphasis in Diesel Engine Technician, as well as five 4-month Technical Competency Area Certificates each specializing in a different area of Diesel Powered Equipment Technology. The Diesel Powered Equipment Technology Diploma program and the Certificate of Technical Studies program are both Pell Grant eligible.
