Diesel Technology at J-Tech
Diesel Technology
The Diesel Technology program at J-Tech provides students with comprehensive ASE certified diesel technology training. Students will learn how to diagnose, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain light, medium, and heavy duty trucks.
Through classroom instruction and career-specific hands-on training, students will also learn about diesel engines, suspension and steering, drive train components such as transmissions and axles, brakes, electrical and electronic systems, preventive maintenance, and heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems in a work simulated environment.
Students will gain valuable hands-on training as they learn how to properly use a computerized automotive information system, a four-wheel computerized alignment machine, a computerized wheel balancing machine, an articulating arm tire machine, a brake lathe, an exhaust gas analyzer, diagnostic computer scanners, lab scopes, fuel injection test equipment, basic engine testing tools, specialized automatic transmission tools, electronic circuit testing tools and meters, and air conditioning charging and recovery equipment.

What to Expect After Graduation
Students who successfully complete the Diesel Technology program at J-Tech will be well-equipped to enter the entry-level job field as a qualified diesel service technician in the diesel-powered equipment, semi-tractor, heavy-construction equipment, farm equipment, and marine diesel equipment industries.
As the diesel industry continues to grow rapidly, job opportunities for qualified diesel mechanics is expected to increase 11% by the year 2020, as fast as average, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. The mean annual wage for bus and truck mechanics and diesel engine specialists working in the United States in 2014 was $45,160, while the mean salary for bus and truck mechanics and diesel engine specialists employed in the state of Florida was $43,720 yearly and $21.02 hourly, just 3% lower than the national average.
The Occupational Associate Degree
J-Tech offers an Occupational Associate Degree in Diesel Technology. This program is Pell Grant eligible.
