Diesel Technology  

The Diesel Technology program at Wallace State Community College provides training, knowledge and skills for students who desire to learn how to troubleshoot and repair truck and heavy equipment systems. 

Specialized classroom and laboratory activities provide each student with the opportunity to learn all phases of repair work on diesel-powered equipment, such as diagnosing malfunctions, servicing, and repairing diesel equipment. Students will also learn how to properly use technical manuals and tools through hands-on training.

Students who complete the Diesel Technology program at Wallace State Community College will be equipped with the basic knowledge, skills, and work attitude necessary to secure and hold an entry-level job as a diesel mechanic.

The Diesel Technology A.O.S. Program

The curriculum of the Diesel Technology Associate of Occupational Studies program is made up of the following courses:

First Semester

Students must complete each course and maintain a minimum GPA of 2.0, the equivalent of a “C” grade, in order to graduate.

Students must finish each class and maintain a minimum GPA of 2.0, the equivalent of a “C” grade, in order to graduate.

The Preventive Maintenance Short-Term Certificate Program

The Preventive Maintenance Short-Term Certificate Program consists of the following courses:

  • Preventive Maintenance
  • Heavy Vehicle Brakes
  • Electrical/Electronic Fundamentals
  • Heavy Vehicle Steering & Suspension
  • Special Topics

 In order to graduate, students are required to complete each course and maintain a minimum GPA of 2.0, the equivalent of a “C” grade.

The Diesel Engine Specialist Short-Term Certificate Program

The Diesel Engine Specialist Short-Term Certificate Program consists of the following classes:

  • Basic Engines
  • Electronic Engine Systems
  • Advanced Engine Analysis
  • Fuel Systems
  • Pneumatics & Hydraulics

In order to graduate, students mustcomplete each class and maintain a minimum GPA of 2.0, the equivalent of a “C” grade.

The Associate in Occupational Studies Degree and Undergraduate Certificate

Wallace State Community College offers a two-year Associate in Occupational Studies Degree in Diesel Technology, as well as a two-year Undergraduate Certificate in Diesel Technology. Wallace State Community College also offers a 4-month Undergraduate Certificate in Diesel Technology with a specialization in Preventive Maintenance, as well as a a 4-month Undergraduate Certificate in Diesel Technology with a Diesel Engine Specialist concentration. The two-year Associate in Occupational Studies Degree program and the two-year Undergraduate Certificate program are both Pell Grant eligible.
